This is the fifth daily report of our first seven-day cruise in the month of May.
Here are the first four:
The plan for Saturday was simple. Offload the bikes to a starboard side fixed dock from the lazarette using the crane. Assuming that was successful, we’d head south to the State Forest for a ride through the woods, then take the Edgartown – Vineyard Haven road into Edgartown for lunch at the Atlantic.
After much trial and error, we figured out how to offload to the starboard side, and it’s actually the easiest way to go.
Mrs. Horne was sporting her Maritimo “Colors” as we left Oak Bluffs.

I got a little lost leaving OB, but discovered a very nice bike path along County Road.

Usually, we take Barnes Road, but a long stretch with no bike path makes Mrs. Horne very nervous.
On the other hand, it’s easy to reach County Road through a few quiet neighborhoods and follow it all the way through the State Forest and onto Edgartown without leaving the bike path (click here for The Official Biking on MV Map.)
The Atlantic Edgartown

As you may recall, The Seafood Shanty was our #1 favorite restaurant in Edgartown for decades. But in 2019, we happened upon the Atlantic and immediately became fans.

They serve a few feature items that I’ve never seen anywhere else, and their horseshoe bar is a great spot to meet new friends or just have conversations with Jaryl, Vlad, or one of the other bartenders.

CUBED WATERMELON & FRENCH
FETA, KALAMATA OLIVES, FENNEL & ARUGULA SALAD, OREGANO VINAIGRETTE

10 OZ PRIME BURGER, CHOICE OF TOPPINGS, FRENCH FRIES

ROTISSERIE LAMB, VEAL & ENTRECÔTE, CILANTRO TAHINI & AMBA SAUCE, FRENCH FETA, PITA BREAD
I’m obsessed with the Atlantic Street Shawarma Tocos – even though they aren’t even tacos! We spent some time discussing the sauce – which has strong curry overtones but, according to the menu, is something Cilantro Tahini and Amber Sauce.
Meanwhile, summer has totally broken out all over Edgartown.
OB Saturday Afternoon
I was stressing about what we would do with the bikes back in OB. I’d bought a heavy duty lock in Edgartown and I was thinking about finding a bike rack near the boat.
There was one near Fishbones, but as we started to lock up our bikes, a lady showed up and told us they were for people on the ferry.
I was mentally preparing to fold the bikes and load them into the hold when I saw a sign bolted to a piling that would make a perfect place to lock up the bikes.

While Edgartown was in full summer mode, OB had gone completely wild. I’ve been visiting Oak Bluffs for decades, and I’ve never seen it as packed as it was on Memorial Day Saturday, 2024.

After a few hours of people watching on Dockside we decided to do Dinner and a Movie on board.
Ever since we passed under the Mystic Tobin Bridge on Wednesday, we’ve been trying to remember the name of the movie set there that involves the Russian Mob. Peter’s daughter Erin suggested Boondock Saints.

While it was an interesting movie, it’s still not the one we are looking for (we’ve also tried Mystic River and Town).
If you know the movie, let me know…
Dinner wasn’t remotely complicated. Coop deVille was ten feet from the starboard rub rail.

Petey has been raving about the Tips for years. He says they are made with Filet Mignon.
They were great but perhaps overshadowed by the O-rings. It’s very challenging to hand-batter onions, fry them crispy, and end up with a coating that doesn’t fall off when you pick them up, but that’s how Petey makes them!
As the sun set on OB, the harbor completely emptied. There was a steady flow of visitors loading on the ferry and boats returning to Cape Cod.
Next up – Final Days

Fine New England cruising. Can’t decide if you cruise because you love boating or if you cruise to be able to eat in every waterfront restaurant in New England. Did the winter readjustments fix the handling issues on the new boat? Is the boat living up to your expectations? Thanks for sharing — fun to follow your wanderings.
The blog serves multiple audiences, but one of the most popular are foodies. We do eat two meals a day, but often share or just order appetizers.
I never rode a balanced M60, so I’m not sure what it should feel like. It seems to be getting less spray on the flybridge. The boat definitely lists less, which could be the Humphrees biting or just better balance.
The real test will come when we are running downwind in significant following seas. Haven’t seen that yet.
You must have made some kind of changes in the organization of this five day trip. Your link above to Day Four leads to a page not found. (Ditto the link in the Day 4 email notice.) do you have a way to add a page redirect from the original URL to a replacement page?
See you in a couple of weeks for the ACK trip.
Thanks Jay – Lotsa cutting and pasting to get around the Facebook bots! I think its fixed now.
