Thursday began ten days of hosting a large variety of friends aboard Amazing Grace. A few years back, I started writing a memoir of sorts, and amid self-reflection, I realized that seeing other people happy is my favorite thing!
So I am very excited about the next ten days!
JDM Detailing
The boat has been docked in Plymouth for the last two weeks, being detailed for the season by JDM Detailing.
Getting her detailed proved challenging because it requires repelling from the top of the flybridge, and many guys don’t want to do that.

I was happy to find John. He does most of his work for Safe Harbor, Rhode Island, but he’s willing to travel for big jobs.

I’ll do a full review of JDM soon.
Delivery From Plymouth
Mrs. Horne planned a party on the boat on Thursday afternoon in Onset. Since John didn’t finish until Wednesday, we needed to “deliver” the boat regardless of the weather.
The forecast for Thursday was the kind that keeps boats on the dock. Rain anywhere and anytime. Chance of fog, thunderstorms, and even golf-ball-sized hail.
Mrs. Horne’s party started at 4:00 and left Plymouth at 9:30 just in case we had slow down or change our course to avoid heavy weather.
I was relieved to see 3-mile visibility as we left the inner harbor,

About 1000 feet past Duxbury Light, we slipped into a thick abyss.
We could see 500’ at best. I dropped down to 22 MPH. Peter did a lobster pot lookout and a manned of the radar.
Fortunately, that only lasted ten minutes, and we ran to the canal at 28 MPH in 3+ mile visibility.

We had a very favorable current in the canal, and even with the engines on idle, we couldn’t go slower than 13 MPH.
Peter and I cleaned for a while and then grabbed a quick lunch at Stonebridge.

The Bay Club Spring Team Party
Mrs. Horne is an avid golfer and loves team play at The Bay Club. She played in the Spring Team beginning in late April and decided to host the end-of-the-season on our boat.
We had planned a canal cruise, but with dark gray skies and an unreliable weather forecast, we stayed on the dock.

After getting everyone’s beverages started, Peter and I retreated to the flybridge and watched Deadliest Catch Reruns.
Since we were leaving for Provincetown Friday morning, we all slept on the boat and grabbed a late dinner at the Glen Cove.

This dish was wonderful, but I wouldn’t call it a stir-fry. It tasted more like Szechuan Lo Mien.
The pizza was also spectacular. As a kid, we ate pizza at the Nest in Mattapoisett. This was the closest I’ve found to their traditional Portuguese pizza.

We customized it by substituting olive oil, garlic, and parmesan for tomato sauce. I later learned that they have linguica, which would have really made this a Nest Tribute Pizza.
We really enjoy the live music in the 1883 Lounge.
We had a lot of action on Thursday and kicked off our ten days of entertaining in class.
Next up – Provincetown with Gail and Rudy
