Spread the love

Mrs. Horne and I enjoyed our first two days on Nantucket alone, and on day three, most of our flotilla friends were all scheduled to arrive.

Tom and Terry were coming over on the ferry with an 11:00 AM ETA. Doc Ruel and his crew were scheduled for Thursday but took advantage of the calm Wednesday afternoon and arrived late.

Jay and Judy are new flotillas members that we’d never actually met in person. They are new to running their Beneteau Antares 11 and planned to arrive early.

Knowing we’d soon be in full-on vacation mode, Mrs. Horne suggested an early bike ride, and I wholeheartedly agreed.

As we were walking back to the boat, someone said, “You must be Dave Horne,” and with that, we met our new friend, Jay, face-to-face.

Tom and Terry arrived on time just before lunch.

Terry and Tom

We met Tom and Terry in 2020 when they bought our fourth boat – Vigilant, and since then, we’ve become great friends. They are currently “between boats,” so we invited them to join us on Nantucket.

We invited Jay and his wife, Judy, to join us for lunch.

It was a great way to get to know new friends. With an eye toward getting a table at a restaurant with great food and a broad menu, we returned to The Charlie Noble.

Charlie Noble All American Burger – $21
8oz. Double Stack of Prime Beef Patties,
Yellow Cheese, Pickles, Mustard, Ketchup
Charlie Noble Crab Cake BLT – $25
Pan Seared Crab Cake, Applewood Smoked Bacon,
Greens, Yuzu Aioli.

I had the Crispy Korean Chicken Sandwich, which was an excellent take on Katsui. I never touched the bulkie roll, and the next time, I’ll skip the roll altogether.

After lunch, the girls did a little shopping for the grandkids. Tom and I picked up an excellent baguette at the Born and Bread Merchantile and Bakery.

We were hosting a cocktail party on Friday and needed crostinis for the brie and pepper jelly.

Early Father’s Day – The Straight Wharf

Mrs. Horne and Terry decided to treat Tom and me to an early dinner at The Straight Wharf.

As a side note, The Straight Wharf is one of the toughest reservations to land on Nantucket. I booked this two weeks ago. Nantucket has plenty of great restaurants you can just walk into, but the best ones require reservations well in advance.

The Straight Wharf is set right on the water with a very nautical vibe.

The menu is “Prix Fixe” at $85 for two courses. There are options to upgrade. Extra sides and desserts are also additional cost.

We tried several different dishes and shared tastes amongst ourselves.

The Straight Wharf Tender Lettuces
garden herbs, baby vegetables, pickled shallots,
and avocado green goddess dressing

This was likely the healthiest dish on the menu.

The Straight Whatf Monkfish Pibil
pepita sikil pak, heirloom corn tostada,
cape gooseberry & citrus dressing
Straight Wharf Woodfired Grilled Nantucket Oysters green garlic and pastis butter, wild ramp & lemon breadcrumb
Straight Wharf Hand-rolled Buckwheat Cavetelli
walnut crema, mushroom and artichoke tapenade,
meyer lemon, spring vegetables, and pecorino
Straight Wharf 10-ounce Grilled Prime Ribeye – $12 Upcharge
creamed local spinach and ramps, grilled red onions, artichokes, hen-of-the-woods, sunchoke pave, black garlic steak sauce
Straight Wharf Spice Coated Sustainable Fish – Hake c
coconut rice, baby bok choy, sea beans, baby turnips,
green crab & uni sauce
Straight Wharf Wood-grilled Harpooned Swordfish
romano beans, broccolini, preserved lemon,
brown-butter caper sauce, and smoked trout roe

Every dish was a work of art and ridiculously delectable. It’s very possible that Straight Wharf is the best restaurant on Nantucket.
