We left Freeport in the fog, but with Mrs. Horne’s newly acquired radar operator skills, it was a breeze.

We arrived at Safe Harbor Wentworth-By-The-Sea around noon and did a quick washdown before heading to Latitudes – one of the restaurants situated inside the marina.

I think we’ve been to every major Safe Harbor marina in New England and Wentworth-By-The-Sea is one of the best.

Latitudes

We discovered this great little restaurant in 2024 when we found ourselves in Portsmouth on a rainy night.

It’s just steps from the slip and offers a full menu in a casual setting.

Of course, on a nice day, you can grab one of the alfresco tables overlooking the water.

As usual, we sat at the bar, chatted with the bartender about his career aspirations, and shared a meal.

They make a great burger and the hand-cut fries are outstanding.

After lunch we headed to downtown Portsmouth in one of the Safe Harbor Courtesy SUV’s.

This is a great perk in a remote marina. One of these days we’ll stay here for a couple of nights and I’ll take Mrs. Horne down I-95 to Salisbury Beach and visit a Casino 😂.

Downtown Portsmouth

A late August Tuesday afternoon is a perfect time to visit Portsmouth. You might even find a parking spot downtown.

I noticed a new shop next to Portsmouth’s LeRoux home store claiming to Empower The Home Cook!

It turned out to be a spice store!

It was certainly interesting, but I’m not sure that a store that exclusively sells fancy-pants spices is a viable business in New Hampshire.

I did buy a few small jars for $7.00 each just to offer support for their efforts.

Next up was my stroll through LeRoux’s and Attrezzi…

I love these shops with curated food and kitchen supplies. I always find something I didn’t know I needed!

Eventually I just wandered around town looking for an iced espresso.

I toyed with surprising Mrs. Horne with a box of connoli, but thought better of it.

When we got back to the boat, the seas had calmed and it was a perfect afternoon for reading on the Skydeck.

Toscana Italian Chophouse & Wine Bar

Since we skipped dinner in Freeport, I wanted to try somewhere special Tuesday night.

Toscana is located in the old New Hampshire National Bank building.

The interior is perfectly hip, classy, and bright.

Our bartender was very helpful as we navigated their robust menu. It may be the best menu we saw on the entire Northern Tour, offering all the usual starters, salads, and seafood dishes one would expect, with great pasta and chophouse dishes as well, including a 36-ounce dry-aged Tomahawk for $145!

They won me over with the soft and warm complimentary bread service.

The sausage pasta caught my eye and I asked the bartender to explain the dish. He said it was one of his favorites, but the sauce was more of a broth.

Having recently been burned by pasta in a broth, I had the bartender see if they could make it in a cream sauce instead.

It turned into one of the best pasta dishes I’ve ever had. The pasta was homemade and the sauce perfectly complemented the crunchy peppers, red onions, and sweet sausage.

It was a fantastic meal for $120.

We got back to the marina as the sun was setting.

Wednesday morning was gray and foggy as we added 400 gallons of diesel ($5.00/gallon – Safe Harbor member price).

Safe Harbor Wentworth-By-The-Sea has added self-serve fuel pumps that are open 24 hours a day. Unfortunately, you can only get the member discount between 8:00 a.m and 6:00 p.m.

We left Wentworth-By-The-Sea around 9:00 for the 65-mile run back to Boston. We had some fog, but visibility never dropped below 1/4 mile visibility.

The skies cleared around 10:00 and we cruised at 30 MPH all the way to Marina Bay.

The twin lights are unique and when you line them up, they point true north!
