Menemsha Marina (With Slip Map and Numbers)

We’re in Menemsha for the third time today.

The first time we thought we could tie up and grab take out, but we couldn’t and ended up gunkholing in the outer harbor for a Jimmy Buffett kinda day.

Now On Dockwa

Last season we booked a slip the old fashioned way, calling at exactly 7:00 AM the day of arrival.

This spring, Menemsha joined Dockwa and I booked this trip the easy way.

A Trip Through Time

Like her sister island Cuttyhunk, a visit to Menemsha harkens of days gone by (imagine Patti Page singing Old Cape Cod).

To me, the thing that makes Menemsha unique is the beautiful beach that is literally 100 steps from the marina.

And since the town of Chilmark is dry, you can bring a cooler of beer and watch the sunset.

The Harbormaster

The boat basin at Menemsha is an old school fishing port that also offers a limited number of dedicated transient slips.

I visited the dock office on Friday and spoke to the dockhands on duty.

I learned that there are 16 dedicated transient slips. The rest are annual slip holders and commercial fishing boats.

They also will occasionally put transients in an empty annual slip if they know the regular owner is away.

The Slip Map

The Dockmaster didn’t want me “posting photos of their map on the internet”, so this morning I downloaded PowerPoint for iPad and drew my own.

Menemsha Marina Slip Map

Essentially, #16 is the furthest out, but closest to the entrance canal. #1-5 are the closest to the beach.

Like Cuttyhunk, the Harbormaster assigns your slip when you book on Dockwa, and now you can figure out where you’ll be!
