Well, sort of…
Vigilant won’t be hitting the water for a few more weeks, but I did kick off my official boating season yesterday.
We’re in Northern California for the weekend visiting long time friends Kay and Steve King at their beautiful home on Lake Tulloch.
Yesterday turned out to be a special day for three reasons!
First of all, it was Steve’s birthday…

Second, despite a lousy forecast, it turned out to be a fabulous day; bright sunshine and 70 degrees…
And third, it ended up being the maiden voyage on Steve’s new pontoon boat and my first cruise of the season…
Lunch in Murphy
The day didn’t start out beautiful. It was gray and cool, so we decided to head over to Murphy for lunch.
Murphy is famous for being the site of Mark Twain’s “Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.”
It’s also a quaint and totally unique little town of streets lined with one-of-a-kind shops, restaurants, and wine tasting rooms.
Of course Mrs. Horne has to stop here to buy gifts for our grand kids Jack and Lucy…
We chose the V and enjoyed a spectacular lunch.
After lunch Mrs. Horne shopped for gifts for Jack and Lucy while I bought Steve a variety of handmade chocolates for his birthday at Nelson’s Columbia Candy Kitchen!
The First Cruise
After a brief stop at the Copperopolis Grocery store to pick up beer, we headed out on the lake for our inaugural cruise.
Our special day was capped off with dinner at The Drifters which is a short ride from the King’s lake house.
Although The Drifters is open for dinner all year round, yesterday was their opening day for Dock and Dine lunch, making it one more special thing about April 6, 2019.
Happy 96th Mommy!
I would be remiss if I didn’t congratulate my dear mommy on her 96th birthday which was also April 6, 2019.
Happy Birthday Mommy, see you in a few weeks!
