The days just started getting longer, and I’m checking out the Opening Day for Bookings at all my favorite marinas on Dockwa.
This means that the dreaming of launch day season is right around the corner.
As has become a My Buzzards Bay tradition, I release all of my summer and fall videos in time for Christmas Eve viewing. These may look like high-end home movies to some, but I know many of our friends and crew enjoy them as much as I do.
One last thing before I get to the videos: I recommend viewing these on “The Big Screen” with the volume turned up. If you have a Roku, download the Vimeo app and search for My Buzzards Bay 2033. This will show you all my published videos of the 2023 season.
Although we did a lot of boating in August, the official season kicked off Labor Day Weekend with Peter in Edgartown.
Our next trip started in Plymouth and ended in Provincetown after a stop in Salem was aborted due to weather. Mike and Susan flew in from Texas to join us.
Our planned visit to OB in mid-September was curtailed by one of many incoming tropical storms, but Mrs. Horne’s Girls Weekend was somewhat salvaged by a Sunday day trip followed by “Boy’s Week” with Peter and Rudy.
The Boys visited two new ports – Salem and Marina Bay. We had a great time and we’ve already locked in the dates for 2024.
Jake and Peggy visited as tropical storms continued to ravage the East Coast. Like all true friendships, we would have fun just hanging around at the house – which we did for three days! But we also got three fun days at sea, visiting Newport Shipyard for the first time.
Our final cruise for the season started earlier than planned, with a 4:00 PM run to Oak Bluffs with Gail and Rudy.
After a beautiful day in Falmouth, we headed to Edgartown to ride out TS Philippe.
Although it turned out to be a half-season, we still managed to get 40 days at sea, and we’re excitedly planning trips for 2024.
The No Name Hurricane of 2023
On December 18, I was playing golf in California when the webcam on my house chirped motion detection. I switched to the video viewer and saw our yard completely submerged in seawater.
Needless to say, it wasn’t a great round of golf. The interesting thing was that it was over as quickly as it started.
When I got home, I checked into Facebook and discovered dozens of videos and photos of devastation all over Buzzards Bay. I “scraped” them off the web and created a video documenting the No Name Hurricane of 2023.
I guess it makes perfect sense following the wicked summer and fall of 2023.
