We began our 16-day voyage to New York City with a night on the boat in Onset.

NYC Trip – Port Of Calls

A storm passed through the South Coast on Friday afternoon, but it was gone by the time we got back from dinner at the 1883.

Our first visit to 1883 this season did not disappoint. We ran into Mrs. Horne’s favorite artist Trevor at the bar.

Trevor, Peter, and Mrs. Horne

The food was great as always…

1883 Stir Fry – $27
mixed vegetables, lo mien noodles,
asian sauce, pea pods, chicken
1883 Caesar – $12
herbed croutons, freshly grated parmesan, romaine hearts, roasted garlic caesar dressing
1883 Steamer Special – $20
1883 Special Pizza – $18
pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms,
garlic EVOO, and parmesan base

I did run into my first disappointment at the 1883. Our bartender didn’t write our order down and didn’t deliver what I ordered (I ordered onions and he brought mushrooms).

Word of Advice: You don’t need to write down orders if you get them right 100% of the time! Otherwise, write them down…

Cuttyhunk Saturday

Saturday was the day of the Annual Cuttyhunk Progressive Dinner. The forecast called for Northeast Winds, which was perfect for a run down the center of Buzzards Bay.

About five miles out, the waves were getting big enough to create spray, so I adjusted my speed to smooth the ride.

Due to our 18’ beam, we were assigned Slip 63. It’s a T dock that worked fine once we figured out how to align the dock with our side door to enable guests to get on and off.

The Progressive Dinner started at 3:00, and by the time we docked and cleaned Amazing Grace for the party, it was 1:30. I made everyone a hot dog on the Barbie and enjoyed a cold one in a frosty.

The Progressive Dinner Party

The concept is for each boat to host one-hour and serve an appetizer. A theme drink is optional.

We began at Tom and Kathleen’s Riviera 54.

Tom’s theme drink was “Fine Wine” and he delivered. I’m not a Chardonnay guy, but I knew anything Tom was pouring would be excellent, so I began our culinary adventure with a glass of 2011 Peter Michael Mon Plaisir.

It was absolutely delicious. I was about to order a case and become a chardonnay sipper when I discovered the price (north of $100/bottle)!

All I can say is Thank You Tom and Kathy – well played!

Doc’s crew made an incredible Lamb Chop and Salad dish.

At 5:00 we moved to Jay and Judy’s Antares 36. They were serving very tasty sliders and grilled vegetables. Jay’s theme drink was a tropical gin punch.

It went down way too easy! Knowing it might be a long night, I went back to Amazing Grace and made myself a Yeti filled with a very pedestrian vodka and seltzer.

Unfortunately, I left my phone there and didn’t get any photos of Jay and Judy’s fabulous spread.

The final two boats were Jeff and Lauren’s 36 Tiara and Amazing Grace.

Jeff and Lauren served up a Steak and Gorgonzola Crostini.

Jeff was serving a Tequila Paloma theme drink. I gave it a taste and it was delicious. But by my own count, I’d had at least three different liquors, so I stuck to my pedestrian Yeti.

Judy and Tom

We wrapped up the Progressive at 7:00 with dessert.

Peter’s son-in-law is a baker and made Blood Orange Brownies. I am not a baker, but I discovered an excellent Portuguese Bakery in New Bedford – Padaria Nova.

They make totally legit Pastel de Nata ($1.25/ea) and Mini Eclairs ($1.00/ea).

We partied deep into the night – 9:15 😂
